But she didn't stop there! She was also widely known for her record-breaking trip around the world in 72 days among many other accomplishments. Betty Lou had a rough childhood. She lost her hearing at a young age and was forced to care for her very young siblings when she was just 12. She married at the age of 15 and spent the rest of her free life in abusive relationships. She was convicted of murdering her fifth husband and was the second woman since the civil war to be put to death in Texas. Harriet Tubman was an American abolitionist and social activist who was born into slavery. She escaped but spent the next ten years rescuing approximately 70 enslaved people, including family and friends using the Underground Railroad. But because she is a badass woman, that is not all she did. During the Civil War, she served as an armed scout and spy for the Union Army and later was an activist in the women's suffrage movement. Lynn tells us about Jaha Dukureh, a Gambian women's right activist and anti-female genital mutilation campaigner. After not speaking for most of her childhood, Maya Angelou blossomed into a phenomenal woman. She spoke 7 languages, was an author, poet, historian, songwriter, playwright, dancer, stage and screen producer, director, performer, singer, educator, and civil rights activist.Rose tells us about conjoined twins, Millie and Christine McKoy who went by the stage names "The Carolina Twins" and "The Two-Headed Nightingale". They were forced to start entertaining at eight-months-old and traveled throughout the world performing for entertainment.
